The bold and unusual Chevy Vega, which was a General Motors product that first saw the light of day in 1970 and ran for only seven years until its discontinuation in 1977 was car that was never really properly given all the tools it needed to succeed, in the estimation of many an automotive expert.

The Vega, though, was noteworthy in that it came to market in a relatively quick 2 years from the time it was conceived on the drawing board to the point when it appeared in dealer showrooms. Offered in a number of two-door styles, included a panel truck, the Vega sought to fill a certain niche.

Taking into account that the Vega was a compact vehicle and that Chevy intended for it to be an import fighter and an entry vehicle for first-time car buyers, the car seemed to do well enough when seen in that light. Due to changes in market forces, though, it ultimately failed to last for as long as it was hoped.

Perhaps as a benefit of strong marketing tactics, the Vega was a top-10 best seller by 1974, though engine shortcomings in both durability and power led the public to perceive that it was maybe not a very well-made car. That engine’s aluminum block initially proved shaky in terms of reliability, but was lightweight and Chevy worked hard to iron out defects over time.

Sadly, those little 4 cylinder engines would spell the eventual doom of the car, with their initial poor quality and anemic performance. Eventually, Chevrolet – which had also been making an evolutionary vehicle developed off the Vega’s body called the Monza – cancelled production after the 1977 model year, with the Monza itself lasting until it finally was killed off after the 1980 model run.

Though looked upon a little more favorably today, most auto experts believe that the Vega was emblematic of much of what was wrong with American automakers back in the seventies. As a statement of its time, though, the Vega tried to show off many styling cues which were believed to be European in nature. Also, it eventually offered fuel injection, which was relatively rare for American cars back then.

The Chevy Vega in all its different styles proved consequential in a number of ways for the company and its parent, General Motors. It made it to market in only 2 years from conception, which was quite impressive for an age when it could be several years before a model might see the light of day. This is probably the signal achievement of the once-notable Vega.

Big, bold beauty and performance from the 2009 Chevy Corvette is easy to see even when the vehicle is at a standstill and covered by a tarp. Sitting alone and unchallenged in the world of 2-seat American sports car performance machines, the fiberglass-clad behemoth harkens back to a time in America when the gas was cheap and the roads were made for speed.

This newest sixth-generation ‘Vette continues to add to a stellar record of past performance, and Chevy has seen to it that the car’s fan base out there gets exactly what it wants. Delivering on that promise with various engine and suspension combinations, the car has demonstrated increasing sophistication over the years to go with its improvements in horsepower, speed and — surprisingly — fuel economy.

The C6 — as this generation of car is sometimes known — hit the market back in 2005, rolling off its Bowling Green, Kentucky line fully ready to rumble no matter the various engine size or suspension rig-out. It’s also a technological adept and joyous to drive.

Chevy’s always tended to use what it learns from the development and ongoing maturation of the 2009 Chevy Corvette to develop other engines, sound-proofing characteristics and body changes to send them down the company lineup of cars, even down to its most pedestrian subcompact offerings.

One thing’s for sure, and that’s that Corvette is never hesitant to put all it robust horsepower on display whenever possible. The vehicle offers a number of different V8 engines, including a 7 liter beast that delivers 435 screaming horses at the pavement level in normally-aspirated form. All that power gives many a 2009 Chevy Corvette the ability to go head-to-head with some truly fine exotic sports cars these days.

As if that weren’t enough, the ZR1 model has been introduced for the new model year and is, by far, the quickest and most powerful ‘Vette ever seen in factory drag. Sporting a supercharged V8 of 6. 2 liters and a 6 speed transmission to get all that power to the pavement, this particular Corvette puts out 635 horsepower that enables the 2-seater to get up to 205 miles per hour and at a cost that’s well under the price similar performance would cost in many other sports cars in the Corvette’s niche.

Today’s 2009 Chevy Corvette comes in at the top of a very large hill in even its most standard versions, though one would be hard-pressed to term anything having to do with the ‘Vette as being “standard.” There’s a level of performance baked into the 2-seater that no American car has come close to touching, and its fiberglass-clad rig-out delivers awesome looks to go with its awesome performance. The ZR1, even at around a hundred grand, is sure to draw out even more lust in the car’s fans.

Driving the 2004 Chevy Colorado around can put one in mind of the fact that it’s direct ancestor was the Chevy S10 midsize pickup to the extent that both were pickups in the Chevy family. After that, there seems to be almost nothing but two vehicles have in common, because the Colorado looks like quite a stylish truck that came out strong as a result of a collaborative effort by two different General Motors divisions.

Being built in one of two plants, the Chevy Colorado sold for use in the United States mainly comes out of the Shreveport Louisiana assembly facility. The truck presents itself with one of two transmission styles; automatic or manual. These two transmissions will made up with a number of different engines.

General Motors in the new millennium — along with Chevrolet — has realized that even a pickup truck owner might be concerned about fuel economy, and that’s why the company offers an in-line four-cylinder engine and a in-line five cylinder engine in varying sizes with the smallest one being a 2. 8 L powerplant. Additionally, power is transferred through those transmissions to either two wheels or four wheels.

The 2004 Chevrolet Colorado can be found in a couple of different cab styles, the two most common being a regular two-door and an extended version that has a small backseat in the rear. There are a number of different options offerings in both the two wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.

The four-wheel drive package — commonly known as the Z71 — offers a lot of equipment for a relatively small amount of money. The pickup truck has been a strong seller, which is partly due to its very attractive design and the range of engines offered, one of which is an in-line five cylinder which seems to bridge the gap between four-cylinder performance and eight cylinder performance that is just a little hungry for gasoline.

As with all Chevy trucks, the 2004 Chevy Colorado comes in a couple of different flavors, including the well-known LS and LT packages, with the LT2 being the one that’s most recognized as having all the bells and whistles. Chevy, with the introduction of this midsize pickup, has made a statement of seriousness that many a fan of Chevy trucks has been waiting for it to display.

The 2004 Chevy Colorado did well in picking up the midsize pickup truck duties from the old Chevy S10. Its appearance on the scene back then gave notice that Chevy was serious about having trucks that looked good and use those little gas as possible while also delivering as much performance as possible.

The latest competitor in the subcompact car market from Chevrolet comes in the form of the 2009 Chevy Aveo. This model is slowly but surely winning over drivers who prefer larger vehicles, with its charm.

You can opt for one of three models where the Aveo LT represents the flagship of this range. Hand gear models as well as an automatic version – available in the LT series only – is available. As far as price is concerned the Aveo comes in as very affordable.

The shift to smaller cars came about as the cost of driving large cars has escalated tremendously. Fuel prices and fuel economy factors sway a lot of buyers and the Aveo sports, variable timing of valves in the 4 cylinder engine got a bit of a re design before release. The higher economy rate this delivers makes for a very strong point in favor of the Chevy.

The automatic gear models prove even better regarding consuming fuel, as the hand gears sometimes cause unnecessary engine revs while the driver gets used to the longer gear shifts.

Chevrolet also worked on the overall safety aspects of the Aveo, as they know that huge a drawback in the small car market is the feeling drivers have that these cars will not protect them during an accident. They have introduced side placed airbags in the front of all their models and designed a nifty anti lock system for the breaks.

Severe crash tests as done by the National Highway Traffic safety Administration saw the Aveo get a 5 star rating for driver protection. This is the top score the NHTSA give out. Four stars were awarded for passengers in the front seat and three for side impact test. All in all great safety results!

The Aveo is available in two body styles – the sedan as well as the four door hatch back model. All models seat 5 passengers in a freshly designed interior with many added features. Standard on all models are intermittent windscreen wipers, a stereo featuring am and fm stations, four speakers and an auxiliary jack. OnStar comes standard as well.

The LT model steps up comfort with a more sophisticated speaker system (six of them) in combination with a CD player. You can choose extra features like keyless access, electric windows, central locking and a satellite radio.

The choice of cloth in the interiors give all the models a classy feel – a step up from the previous models that had a cheaper feel about them. Metal trim finishes and luxurious cloth choices set the LT model apart. As with all subcompacts the baggage storage area seems a bit small, but the LT offers quite an improved size.

The Aveo has proven to be a good choice in small cars to save money on daily commuting.

The long, successful life of the Chevy Caprice Classic was on display in various styles and designs, and it proved a real winner for the company from the time it debuted back in 1965 until it ended its run after the 1996 model. The car served GM well, and its many customers took to it with enthusiasm for four generations and a number of body and engine/transmission changes.

Meant to be a full-size car for many consumers, the Caprice Classic filled the role ably, being the company’s most expensive real-wheel, big-car offering right from the time it first came off the assembly line in the middle of the 1965 model year. General Motors knew what it had and took pains to stock it with as many options as it could.

For the first two generations (there were four in total) Chevy offered on 8 cylinder big and small-block powerplants. At the start of its third iteration, the company dropped an inline-6 into the mix in an attempt to improve fuel economy, though the car had never been able to brag at being much of a gas sipper prior to that. The most important change to the car up that point came in 1977, when it was completely redesigned and slimmed down in dimension.

This new model proved to be a success, too, and quite different in appearance from its predecessors, taking on a cubed-off and boxy shape, which it would retain until 1990. The vehicle also proved to be quite popular with police departments all over the country due to its body-on-frame construction, rear wheel drive, V8 engine availability and extra-large rear seat.

As the luxury offering in the Caprice line, the Caprice Classic did its job well and with a great deal of aplomb, never straying far from the top of the Chevy price lists for full-size cars. Its final offering resulted in it appearing in another new redesign, though it carried over nicely-powered V8 engines to the point it offered a detuned Corvette mill.

The Caprice Classic also strove to offer much in the way of interior room and was a favorite of consumers everywhere, though it eventually saw its sales numbers drop off as the car market segmented itself down into ever-smaller slices. This meant that it never reached sales levels of the 70s, when it was most popular and the 80s, though police departments continued to rave about its abilities.

The Chevy Caprice Classic, for all intents and purposes, went away after 1996, though there is a version of the Caprice being sold in Middle Eastern markets which is based off an Australian vehicle made by the Holden auto company. Truly an American icon, the big Chevy occupied a place in many an American consumer’s heart for over thirty years.

A four wheel drive was also introduced, replacing the Lumina back in 2000. However, for a while after, the cars were still produced sold exclusively for rental fleets.
