What is rare and unknown is often misunderstood, and this is unfortunately the case with hybrid cars. Because they are quite fresh to the market, many have never even seen or at least noticed when they’ve seen a hybrid car and go on believing the false notions they hear and perceive concerning them. For example, a lot of people may say that a hybrid car is too expensive for the middle class buyer, but this isn’t true at all. The Kia Optima Hybrid, for instance, comes at the affordable price of just under $30,000 USD. The excellent fuel consumption is rated at 40 miles per gallon on the highway and 35 miles per gallon while driving in the city and will naturally save you quite a bit of cash each month after making your purchase.
Another misconception concerning hybrid cars are that they are complex and tricky to manage. While the technology behind a hybrid truly is genius, the know-how to use one is no more complex than any other vehicle. The Kia Optima Hybrid for example recharges itself while you are driving, and the electric motor even transforms kinetic energy into electricity stored away in the battery pack every time you hit your breaks. With this hybrid, it’s as simple as pushing the start button to begin your journey. In addition, extra features such as the Active Eco System which regulates your transmission, engine and AC unit to gain the best fuel consumption possible make the Optima Hybrid pure simplicity to control.
Those who have never seen a hybrid car may be tempted to think it would appear unattractive because it can sound like some type of ahead-of-its-time automobile that isn’t sensible at all. The surprising thing, however, is that the average person wouldn’t be able to tell a hybrid and a non-hybrid vehicle apart. The Optima Hybrid and the conventional hybrid, for instance, exude the same authority and radiant appeal that offers control while maintaining class. Kia Motors has implemented a variety of features that make driving more enjoyable than ever before. For convenience sake alone, the Technology Package consists of heated and cooled seats, HID headlamps, a panoramic sunroof and expert navigational system. You may now be more comfortable in your car than in your own home.
This hybrid makes no compromises on power either. Able to move at more than 206 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, there is no reason for a hybrid to be any slower than conventional automobiles. Not only are they fast, but hybrid battery packs are created to last the entire life span of the automobile which is normally 150,000 miles or 10 years. The battery is not only ranked extremely high in durability, but the lithium polymer material makes the battery more lightweight and more compact than all the other hybrid batteries available today. It would be a rare occasion indeed for a hybrid battery to need replacing.
Regardless of what people today may believe, hybrid and electrical cars are here to stay. Because of diminishing available petrol resources which cause the prices of fuel to skyrocket, hybrid cars will only increase in popularity. Not only would it be better for the economic structure to increase the amount of hybrid cars being used today but more importantly for the general health of mankind as well. It’s no surprise to most people that using petrol fills the air and even the atmosphere with toxic pollutants, and up until recently, there was no other alternative; hybrid cars, however, give us the option we need to use our planet’s resources more wisely while watching our pocketbooks and ensuring cleaner air for the future generations. By the year 2015, it’s predicted that more than 5 million hybrid cars will be sold globally because of economic and environmental reasons.

On the 12th of September, 2011, Kia Motors was awarded for setting a new Guinness World Record for the best fuel consumption. According to the Guinness World Record rules, the Optima Hybrid Sedan was required to carry two people and their baggage across the 48 bordering states of the U.S. Chris Bernius of New York and Wayne Gerdes of Illinois took the wheel across the 7,899 mile distance, weaving in and out of all 48 states; they began their grand expedition in West Point, Georgia and finished up in Greenville, South Carolina.
The sedan flew past the minimum fuel consumption required of 52.27 miles per gallon by averaging the entire trip at 64.55 miles per gallon. The long trip only took Bernius and Gerdes 14 days on the road and about 5.5 tanks of fuel. They not only achieved a new Guinness World Record, but they also surpassed the sedan’s authorized EPA freeway petroleum consumption rate by more than 60 percent.
On September 12, 2011, a Guinness evaluator Philip Robertson presented a certificate to the two motorists at the public ceremony held on Kia Motors’ campus in West Point, Georgia. The world record on the official document was titled “lowest fuel consumption driving through all 48 contiguous U.S. states in a gasoline hybrid car.” This was a grand moment indeed for all who have a part in Kia Motors. Thomas Oh, the Senior Vice President of Kia Motors, said, “The drivers had to complete their unsupported drive through all kinds of American terrain and weather conditions and they did it without a single hitch from the Optima Hybrid while setting what is such an impressive fuel consumption figure.”
If you’re someone who has longed to break a Guinness World Record without breaking a sweat, this was the perfect situation. The two drivers traveled around the nation for two weeks while enjoying the Sedan’s maximum comfort and agility. Bernius and Gerdes were astonished at the Optima Hybrid’s fuel-saving capability and said it was most relaxing car to be in for such a great distance.
The Optima Hybrid presented no problems on the record-setting journey which covered deserts, mountains and traffic peaks all over the U.S.A. This isn’t a car which operates well under solely favorable conditions but adverse extremes as well. The Sedan flawlessly cut through icy temperatures as well as sweltering heat of more than 110 degrees. If you’re after a dependable automobile that prioritizes lowest gas consumption and adaptability, this sedan is a wise choice.
